It was foggy on the corner and foggy down the street. So foggy everywhere, could barely see my feet. Aside from that, there’s a rhythmic sounding beat. [CHORUS] Something was creating that smooth beat making. Something was creating that smooth beat making. The lamppost was humming, a tree branch drumming. Something went flappity-flap, another rapidly tapped. While snapping and rapping, my neighbor started clapping. There was thumping and shaking, with a strong backbeat. No pausing now, it owns the whole street. Every way you shake it, that rhythm’s so sweet. [CHORUS] Something was creating that smooth beat making. Something was creating that smooth beat making. Our shutters all rattled, the walkway swayed, the whole town was caught in a rhythmic soundwave. It was under the sidewalk. It was up in the air. It rattled all the windows and shook my chair. Trash cans were crashing, sounding like they’re battling. [CHORUS]Something was creating that smooth beat making. My feet started stomping, hands slapping knees, my body started rolling like waves upon the sea. A car alarm wailed, a loose gate creaked, a loud boom rumbled then swept up the street. A deep-down thud really shook my bones! Not just that, it was coming from my home! [CHORUS] Something was creating that smooth beat making. Something was creating that smooth beat making. I ran to the basement, swung wide the open door, where my old washing machine was bouncing off the floor. The spin cycle lost it, and the drum’s gone wild. It even started breaking my old floor tiles. My washer was the problem, as it banged and knocked. I yanked out the plug, and the rhythm just stopped. I told all my neighbors it came from out of the fog. They would never have believed my washer was merely clogged. [CHORUS]Something was creating that smooth beat-making… a smooth beat making… a smooth beat making.
