Moroccan Roll (The Grand Tour S01E05)
[Intro] (Hypnotic Moroccan oud melody playing, hand drums beating, then a heavy distorted desert-rock guitar riff kicks in) [Verse 1] The big white tent is standing in Rotterdam tonight The Dutch fans are cheering, the studio is bright But the story that they tell us travels far away To the hot Moroccan desert, where the sports cars play [Verse 2] Three lightweight roadsters under the burning sun They want to see which modern car is the most fun The Atlas Mountains rise into the hazy air The winding roads are twisting, danger everywhere [Verse 3] Jeremy is driving a carbon-fiber dream An Alfa 4C Spider, painted loud and scream It looks like pure passion, it has no power steering tight He’s sweating through the corners, fighting with his might [Verse 4] And James is in the Mazda, the new MX-5 The simplest little sports car that you can drive He thinks it is perfection, he doesn't need the speed Just regular mechanics for a gentleman's need [Verse 5] But Richard has a weapon, a crazy track-day toy The Zenos E10 S, built for a racing boy It has no doors or windows, it doesn't have a roof On lightweight performance, it wants to give the proof [Verse 6] They drive through ancient villages, the dusty wind is blowing The contrast of the carbon and the old world is showing The scenery is cinematic, the asphalt starts to climb They push the little engines, racing against time [Verse 7] But Jeremy and James have a wicked little plan To ruin Hammond's weekend as only old friends can The Zenos claims it’s lightweight, seven hundred kilos flat They want to check the numbers and see where it is at [Verse 8] They find an old marketplace, a trading square so grand And build a giant weighing scale upon the yellow sand They put the Zenos on one side, to see what it will take To balance out the weight with the choices they will make [Verse 9] They start to load the other side with everything they find Traditional Moroccan goods of every single kind A mountain of bright spices, rugs from every stall But the scales are barely moving, it isn't enough at all [Verse 10] Then come the live animals, a crazy market show They bring a flock of sheep, making them walk slow And then a giant camel is pulled onto the scale Hammond sits and watches, turning very pale [Verse 11] The camel shakes its head and looks into the frame The whole marketplace is laughing at this ridiculous game The Zenos is balanced by the desert's own supply Under the heavy heat of the North African sky [Verse 12] They head into a movie set, where famous films were made Among the ancient ruins and the desert shade They build a racing track across the dusty floor To test the handling limits and see who scores more [Verse 13] The Alfa slides around, the Mazda rolls a bit But Richard in the Zenos is really loving it Until they change the rules and make them drive so slow To see which car is quietest where the tourists go [Verse 14] Back in the Netherlands, they test another pair Two massive luxury SUVs that make the people stare The Bentley Bentayga, a heavy rolling lounge And the Jaguar F-Pace, looking for a pounce [Verse 15] They drive them through the mud, they race them on the track To see if British luxury can hold the monsters back Jeremy loves the Bentley, though it looks quite strange A living room on wheels with a massive speed range [Verse 16] In Celebrity Brain Crash, Golden Earring is the guest The famous Dutch rock band is put to the test They arrive in a helicopter, but things go wrong again They crash into the ground, dying in the rain [Verse 17] The fifth song is ending, the Moroccan roll is done From Rotterdam's harbor to the burning desert sun Three presenters bickering about a camel's weight The Grand Tour is rolling, driving through the gate [Outro] (Heavy psychedelic guitar solo, Arabic strings rising in tempo, loud drum climax, fading out with wind blowing sand)
