Dayspring (From On High)
Verse 1 In the temple smoke and silence, an angel broke the night— “Fear not, God heard your pleading; a prophet’s life takes flight. Name him John; he’ll turn the hearts, prepare the narrow way; make ready for the Holy One, and dawn the promised day.” Chorus Dayspring from on high, shine upon our road; guide our wandering feet to peace in Thee alone. Mercy through the ages, covenant and light— Jesus, promised Savior, rise on us tonight. Verse 2 In Nazareth, a greeting: “O favored one, don’t fear. The Spirit will overshadow; the Son of God is near.” Mary answered, “Here am I— thy handmaid, Lord, I’ll be.” Faith ran to meet her cousin’s house, and leapt within the seed. Chorus Dayspring from on high, shine upon our road; guide our wandering feet to peace in Thee alone. Mercy through the ages, covenant and light— Jesus, promised Savior, rise on us tonight. Bridge Turn the hearts of fathers, children to the truth; call us to repentance, teach us faith and fruit. Loosen every silence, open lips to praise; fill us with the Spirit, send us in Thy ways. Final Chorus Dayspring from on high, banish fear and night; lead us to the manger— our King, our Life, our Light. Mercy through the ages, faith made clear in sight— Jesus, Lord forever, rise on us tonight.
