[Verse 1] You climbed the old tree in a dress the color of cream Sandals tied twice where the roots split the stream Water hung bright on the leaves overhead You laughed at the dark like it heard what you said [Pre-Chorus] No map in your pocket, no reason to stay Just one hand on the bark and the night giving way [Chorus] Take the wild road, take it barefoot and brave Let the old branches carry whatever you came to save If the morning asks where your careful heart has gone Tell it you left with the rain and you’re still moving on [Verse 2] Honey-colored hair caught a wind from the falls Your shadow climbed higher than the branches and walls A small square of silver held the moment in place But nothing could frame that look on your face [Pre-Chorus] No promise to keep and no door locked behind Only water like glass and a restless mind [Chorus] Take the wild road, take it barefoot and brave Let the old branches carry whatever you came to save If the morning asks where your careful heart has gone Tell it you left with the rain and you’re still moving on [Bridge] Keep the picture, lose the pose Let the dark soil mark your clothes Somewhere past the falling spray You become the choice you made [Final Chorus] Take the wild road, take it barefoot and brave Let the old branches carry whatever you came to save If the morning asks where your careful heart has gone Tell it you left with the rain and you’re still moving on [Outro] Still moving on Past the roots, past the falls Still moving on
