The Heat of Summer

Hey hey hey heyyy come on Dj slyg summer's song [Verse 1] the mailbox burns my palm Your name on a folded note Banana seat on the curb And a garden hose gone cold Sweat on the window glass Bare feet on cracked-up stone You said, "meet me after noon" Now the whole block feels alone [Pre-Chorus] The air won't move for us It hangs like a heavy sheet I look up at the sky And it looks back at me [Chorus] Hey Hey The Heat of summer Hey Hey Everybody's hot is better The heat of summer I like it like that We were wild and free [Verse 2] Ice cream dripping on my wrist Thumbprints on a paper cup Your laugh cut through the yard When the sprinkler jumped us up The radio played too slow The peaches split in two I kept one hand in yours Like it was something true [Pre-Chorus] The air won't move for us It hangs like a heavy sheet I look up at the sky And it looks back at me [Chorus] Hey Hey The Heat of summer Hey Hey Everybody's hot is better The heat of summer I like it like that We were wild and free [Bridge] When the evening finally broke And the pavement gave us back We ran through every yard Leaving footprints in the black Now every August comes With your shadow in the trees And that same hot sugar taste Still sticks inside of me [Chorus] Hey Hey The Heat of summer Hey Hey Everybody's hot is better The heat of summer I like it like that We were wild and free
