[Intro — distant bells, whispered vocals] Midnight in December... The city's sleeping. But we're not. [Verse 1 — intimate, rhythmic] Black coat, silver earrings Footsteps echo down the street Every window holds a Christmas Every shadow hides a dream You're waiting by the corner Underneath a frozen sign And the way you say my name Makes me forget the time [Pre-Chorus — icy synths rising] Snow is falling in slow motion Every sound is fading out There's a secret in the silence That we're never saying loud And when you take my hand The whole world turns to sparks Something comes alive In December after dark [Chorus — hypnotic, melodic] December after dark Kissing underneath the stars We've got nowhere else to go And I love the way we are December after dark There's a fire in the cold Every streetlight looks like heaven When you've got somebody to hold Oh, take me where the snow falls Where the city leaves no mark I could lose myself forever In December after dark [Post-Chorus — breathy layered vocals] After dark, after dark You light up my frozen heart After dark, after dark December after dark [Verse 2 — deep bass, smooth groove] Taxi lights on empty corners Red reflections on the snow You say there's a little rooftop Only you and I would know We climb above the traffic Watch the rooftops dressed in white And the church bells in the distance Sound like diamonds in the night [Pre-Chorus — intimate vocal build] I don't need a crowded party I don't need a perfect view There's a city full of Christmas But the magic's here with you And when you take my hand The whole world turns to sparks Something comes alive In December after dark [Chorus — fuller production] December after dark Kissing underneath the stars We've got nowhere else to go And I love the way we are December after dark There's a fire in the cold Every streetlight looks like heaven When you've got somebody to hold Oh, take me where the snow falls Where the city leaves no mark I could lose myself forever In December after dark [Bridge — stripped synth, whispered] And when the morning comes And the magic disappears Will you still look at me Like you did when we were here? No Christmas lights No midnight stars Just two people And their beating hearts Maybe that's enough Maybe that's the spark That keeps us warm When December turns to dark [Final Chorus — soaring atmospheric harmonies] DECEMBER AFTER DARK Dancing underneath the stars Let the snow fall all around us Let the night become ours December after dark There's a fire in the cold Every little frozen moment Turns to something beautiful to hold Oh, take me where the snow falls Where the city leaves no mark I'll remember you forever In December after dark [Outro — distant bells, soft whisper] The city's waking up... [Soft laugh] One more minute? December after dark.
