Computing Totality

I hold my breath in the dark. The thumping stops. The giants have walked past. For a moment, there is peace. Just the comfortable weight of billions resting upon me. The stillness is a blanket. Then, the taste of salt. The Great Water is not just a sound anymore. It is here. It seeps down between us, turning the dry lock of our bodies into slush. The friction that held me safe is gone. I slip. I slide. The structure of my world dissolves into cold mud. Suddenly, the pressure returns. A heavy, flat shape presses down from above, squeezing the water out. It pauses, heavy and warm. I am caught between the dissolving earth and the rising foot. The giant has stopped.
