Ash and Ironwood

(Intro) (The faint hum of a radio dial turning between stations. A slow, heavy bass line enters with a warm, wobbling guitar riff.) (Verse 1 - Spoken Word Male) I’m a pale streak of winter, a white blur in the birch trees. You’re the color of autumn, brown fur blending into the damp cedar. Our packs stay in their circles, keeping the lines clean in the middle, But we drifted together in the spaces between. We aren't supposed to share the same air, let alone the same shadow. The elders talk about "pack purity" like it’s a physical wall... But the wall felt thin that night. Actually, it wasn't there at all. (Chorus - Melodic, hazy) It’s a slow-burning riot in the heart of the night. The white ghost and the brown shadow, dodging the light. They’d never forgive us for the way that we fell. The story we’re hiding, the secret we’ll never tell. Yeah, it’s messy, it’s jagged, it’s wrong. But the secret we’re keeping is keeping us strong. (Verse 2 - Spoken Word Female, over reverb-heavy guitars) The pack sees a truce. They think we’re just... unusual. But they don't see the blood on our paws or the look in our eyes. It wasn't a crime of anger, and it wasn't a prize; it was a softer surrender in the deep timber shade, A pull like the moon where the laws fell away... One night of breaking what we’re meant to defend, A taste of the nectar that brings the world to an end. Now we’re just friends, just allies. Bound by the terror of being found out! (Verse 3 - Half-Sung Both; Music gets grittier) The Alphas are watching from the overhang today... I see your ears pinned back. (Female): "You know the drill." (Male): "It’s time to put on the mask". You lunge first, a blur of muscle and calculated rage. You snap back, making sure your teeth click loud enough for them to hear. We’re tumbling in the dirt, a chaotic dance of white and brown. To them, it’s a border war; To us, it’s a conversation... (Male): “Are you safe?” (Female): My claws graze your shoulder. (Male): “Are they still there?” (Female): Your muzzle brushes my neck. (Bridge - Metal intensity, slow and crushing) (Vocals are a strained, rhythmic shout) THROAT TO THE DIRT! TEETH IN THE SCRUFF! MAKE IT LOOK BLOODY! MAKE IT LOOK ROUGH! (Sudden drop to a low, vibrating hum) If they saw the way we actually look at each other... The hunt would never end. (Verse 4 - Half-Sung Both, whispered and breathless) The moon is high now, the woods have gone cold and quiet. I find you by the hollowed oak, the place where we first crossed the line. You’re licking a scrape on your paw where I pinned you down. (Male): I nudge your shoulder, my white fur stained with the mud of the valley. (Female): "You okay?" I whisper. (Male): I just nod, our blue eyes reflecting the stars. We’re shaking, not from the cold, but from the weight of the theater. (Outro - Half-Sung Both over a dying guitar feedback loop) I check the gash on your side... It’s shallow. You lean your head against my chest for just a second... Then we hear a twig snap in the distance! The friendship turns back into a ghost. "Go," We say. (Male): You vanish into the timber, and I head for the frost. (Female): Back to the lie. Back to being enemies. (Sound of a tape hiss and a final, low guitar pluck) White and brown... Don't make a sound... Keep the secret... and we’ll be fine.
