FRANK 022 – The First Act of Vengeance | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) He saw a child fall helpless beneath the rushing stream, And plunged into the water to answer to her scream. He bore her safely upward and laid her on the shore, Then heard a weapon thunder and felt what kindness bore. (Verse 2) The bullet tore his body, though mercy moved his hand, And pain became the answer from those he could not understand. He fled into the forest with fury in his breath, And swore that human hatred would henceforth answer death. (Chorus) The gentle heart grew darker beneath repeated pain, And kindness once rejected returned as cold disdain. He turned from hope to vengeance and followed hatred’s call, Determined that his maker should suffer through it all. (Verse 3) Near Geneva he found William beneath the evening sky, And thought a child too young to fear might hear his lonely cry. But William named his family and screamed at what he saw, And rage against his maker became the only law. (Verse 4) He closed his hands in anger until the child lay still, Then saw the shining locket and shaped another ill. He placed it upon Justine as innocence lay asleep, And left another victim for grief itself to keep. (Chorus) The gentle heart grew darker beneath repeated pain, And kindness once rejected returned as cold disdain. He turned from hope to vengeance and followed hatred’s call, Determined that his maker should suffer through it all. (Bridge) The world had answered mercy with terror, shot and blame, So vengeance found a purpose when he learned the child’s name. He struck at Victor’s household through innocence and breath, And crossed the final boundary between despair and death. (Outro) The forest closed behind him beneath the fading light, While William lay in silence and falsehood armed the night. The outcast once desiring a place where love might start, Had chosen his first vengeance and hardened his own heart.
