Porch Light Promise

[Verse 1] You left your boots by the door Still red dirt on the soles I hung your coat on the chair Like I could hold your going The porch light hums at dusk And the screen door sighs at night I keep the key on the hook Like you might walk in right [Pre-Chorus] I tell myself slow Hearts don’t break clean But every little thing Still leans toward you and me [Chorus] Come back to this porch light Come back to my name (come back, come back) Come back to this porch light And say it again I’ll leave the gate unlatched I’ll keep your side warm (keep it warm) Come back to this porch light Before the dawn is gone [Verse 2] Your coffee cup still waits By the window by the sink I water the basil once Then stand there and think About your laugh in June About your hand in mine How the whole house felt When you were here at night [Pre-Chorus] I tell myself slow Hearts don’t break clean But every little thing Still leans toward you and me [Chorus] Come back to this porch light Come back to my name (come back, come back) Come back to this porch light And say it again I’ll leave the gate unlatched I’ll keep your side warm (keep it warm) Come back to this porch light Before the dawn is gone [Bridge] If you lost your way Follow the dogs bark Follow the screen door Follow my heart If you’re holding back I’m still holding on Still holding the doorway Still holding on [Final Chorus] Come back to this porch light Come back to my name (come back, come back) Come back to this porch light And say it again I’ll leave the gate unlatched I’ll keep your side warm (keep it warm) Come back to this porch light Before the dawn is gone Come back to this porch light I’m right here, love (come back, come back) Come back to this porch light And stay when you do
