Intro (Car door slam. Engine running. Two guitar chords.) We found it outside a Tesco. It looked lonely. --- Verse 1 It was standing by the pavement, Slightly leaning to the right. Had a sticker on its shoulder That said "Keep Left" in black and white. You said it looked abandoned. I said, "Things can be alone." Then we put it in the backseat And gave it a ride home. --- Chorus Orange traffic cone, Coming with us down the road. Orange traffic cone, Got a place nobody knows. Everybody needs somebody When the weather turns cold. Orange traffic cone, You're the best thing that we stole. --- Verse 2 We took it to the seaside, Sat it next to the pier. People stopped and looked at it Like it had been waiting years. A child asked its name. We said, "We haven't decided." The cone just faced the ocean Like it was slightly disappointed. --- Chorus Orange traffic cone, Riding shotgun through the night. Orange traffic cone, Always pointing us right. It doesn't ask questions, It doesn't complain. It just sits there quietly Through the sunshine and rain. --- Bridge (Music drops to bass and handclaps.) The police didn't want it. The council didn't claim it. The motorway said: "Actually... We kind of miss it." --- Instrumental Break (Fast guitar riff. Tambourine shakes. Backing vocals chant: "Cone! Cone! Cone!") --- Verse 3 We crossed another county, Stopped at another town. The cone got a better seat When the old one broke down. People came and went. The summer carried on. Funny how the useless things Are the hardest things to move on from. --- Final Chorus Orange traffic cone, Still sitting by my side. Orange traffic cone, Taking every wrong turn in stride. If the car stops tomorrow, If the engine finally goes, I'll carry you the rest of the way... My little orange traffic cone. --- Outro (Engine fades. Soft guitar.) We sold the car. Kept the cone. Obviously.
