Verse 1 Now ‘bout the times and the seasons, I don’t need it spelled out plain You know that day is comin’ like a breakin’ thunder rain When they say “peace and safety,” I hear trouble on the rise Like a thief up in the midnight with fire behind his eyes Labor pains on a woman, they come and won’t let go What’s comin’ on this world now… it moves fast, then moves slow Chorus So watch and pray, don’t fall asleep tonight He comes like a thief in the night Watch and pray, keep your heart set right He comes like a thief in the night Verse 2 But you, you ain’t walkin’ in darkness, no, you ain’t meant to be blind You sons of the light, sons of the day, leave the shadows far behind So don’t get drunk on this world, don’t drift off in the sound Put on faith like armor, keep your hope strong and bound God didn’t set you up for wrath, but for life through the Son Who bled out on that cross so the victory was won Chorus So watch and pray, don’t fall asleep tonight He comes like a thief in the night Watch and pray, keep your heart set right He comes like a thief in the night Bridge (slow stop-time / spoken feel) Rejoice always… (pause) Pray without ceasing… (pause) Give thanks in everything… (pause) Don’t quench the Spirit… Hold fast to what is good… And step away from what ain’t right Verse 3 Encourage one another, don’t you leave nobody alone Build each other up while you’re still walkin’ toward the throne Respect the ones who labor, live in peace where you stand Hold your tongue in anger, keep forgiveness in your hand Test every word that’s spoken, let the truth be your guide And let the fire of the Spirit keep you burnin’ deep inside Final Chorus So watch and pray, don’t fall asleep tonight He comes like a thief in the night Watch and pray, keep your heart set right He comes like a thief in the night Outro Like a thief… in the night… Better keep your lamp burnin’ bright… Like a thief… in the night… He’s comin’… no warning… just light…
