MERCY 020 – No Crown From The Old World | The Mercy
(Verse 1) The founders kept emergency law through twenty-seven years, And ruled by vanished offices, old seals and older fears. The Afterborn stood waiting while the elders held the chair, Then asked why dead authority should govern living air. (Verse 2) Restoration claimants raised the flags of nation, rank and name, And told the scattered Houses they had inherited the claim. But maps could not keep water, nor could paper work the ground, And no forgotten capital could order them be crowned. (Chorus) No crown comes from the ashes without the people’s right, No banner owns the future for surviving through the night. No one was chosen worthy by the White or by the flame, And no dead state may rule the world by borrowing its name. (Verse 3) The Afterborn had farmed the land and watched the orchards grown, They knew the pumps and bridges as the founders never known. They placed the old inheritance within the living hand, And told the emergency councils they must answer where they stand. (Verse 4) The claimants brought constitutions, uniforms and every seal, But every right they promised had to live beyond the steel. A law was not a relic if the governed had no voice, And freedom was not inherited without a living choice. (Chorus) No crown comes from the ashes without the people’s right, No banner owns the future for surviving through the night. No one was chosen worthy by the White or by the flame, And no dead state may rule the world by borrowing its name. (Bridge) They honoured every lesson that the vanished world had said, But would not kneel to orders merely spoken by the dead. The past could leave them knowledge, but it could not leave a throne, For every House must choose the law it willingly calls its own. (Outro) So through the halls of founders did the Living Generation rise, With no appointed destiny reflected in their eyes. The old world left inheritance, but no command was born, And every crown lay empty till the living freely sworn.
