Faces glowing beneath the lights The city flows beneath a sea of umbrellas Car horns, voices drifting through the streets The distant sound of someone shouting Someone laughing like they’re having the time of their life Everyone seems to be alright Surrounded by all this noise I can only hear the voice inside I know how small I am I know how powerless I can be I know I can’t change a thing No matter how loud the city gets No matter how loudly someone screams This noise will never drown it out The voice inside my head It never goes away No matter how much time goes by No matter how far I go Somewhere along the way I always end up back where I started If I’m only going back to square one Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad Maybe I’m even further behind Standing alone in the middle of the crowd In a place where no one can see me I’m surrounded by everyone But I’m still alone with me I thought I was getting somewhere But the noise is far too loud And the lights are far too bright The louder the world gets The louder I hear myself No matter how much time goes by No matter how far I go I can’t escape this voice I can’t escape myself Maybe tomorrow I’ll lose my way Maybe I’ll find a way to start again From somewhere even further behind Than where I started
