Dum… dum… doo-wah… Shoo-bop… shoo-bop… Red scarf… Red scarf… I saw her by the corner store When the evening turned cold Her red scarf snapped behind her Like a ribbon made of gold Church bells rang at seven Rain was shining on the street She stepped beneath the lamp-post And the world forgot to breathe Oh, I tried to say, “Good evening” But my mouth would not behave She passed me like a secret That I wasn’t brave enough to save Girl in the red scarf Won’t you turn around? Every time I see you My heart starts pounding loud Doo-wah, doo-wah Red scarf flying Girl in the red scarf Do you know my name? Every night I dream You’re walking my way again Shoo-bop, shoo-bop That girl in the red scarf Next day by the bus stop I rehearsed my little line “Miss, I think I’ve seen you Passing here from time to time” But she came around the corner With that red scarf at her chin I held one hand up halfway Then I dropped it down again She smiled at something distant Not a thing that I could see And I stood there on the sidewalk Mad at my own knees Girl in the red scarf Won’t you turn around? Every time I see you My heart starts pounding loud Doo-wah, doo-wah Red scarf flying Girl in the red scarf Do you know my name? Every night I dream You’re walking my way again Shoo-bop, shoo-bop That girl in the red scarf [falsetto] Ohhh, if I called your name beneath that corner light Would you keep on walking Or stay with me tonight? Please stay Just a little while Turn around, girl Let me see that smile Red scarf, red scarf Floating down the avenue Red scarf, red scarf Tell me what I’m gonna do Girl in the red scarf Won’t you turn around? Every time I see you My heart starts pounding loud Doo-wah, doo-wah Red scarf flying Girl in the red scarf Do you know my name? Every night I dream You’re walking my way again Shoo-bop, shoo-bop That girl in the red scarf There she goes… Dum-dum… doo-wah… Red scarf… Red scarf… Maybe tomorrow I’ll finally say hello Maybe tomorrow She’ll be walking slow Shoo-bop… shoo-bop… The girl in the red scarf Dum-dum… doo-wah… The girl in the red scarf
