The Thorn Bird

V5.5

©️Angelina Maria 2026 She left her nest at the break of day Chasing a fire she couldn’t tame Through wind and dust and empty skies She followed what she could not deny No place to rest, no place to stay A restless burning lit her way She swore one song would end the quest One final note would give her rest Each mile carved deep into her skin Each night grew colder deep within Still she chased that distant sound A call so strong it pulled her down Oh she sang till her heart broke wide Every note cut her deep inside The sweetest song I ever heard Came from a broken thorn bird And love is like a sharpened thorn Held close to a heart that’s torn The most beautiful song she knew Was the one that would pierce her through She found the tree at dying light Where day surrenders into night Its branches bent with silent grief Heavy with truth, no sweet relief And there it stood, that waiting spine So cruel, so cold, so divine Like fate that calls and won’t release The final wound that brings her peace One final breath, the thorn went through Pierced my heart, split it in two A song no earth could hold or keep I sang as it buried deep Oh she sang though it tore her wide Let every shattered note collide The price of love is always high Still we pay and don’t ask why And love remains the cruelest thorn Still she held though her heart was torn The most beautiful song she gave Was the one that sealed her grave So if you hear her in the night A fragile ghost in pale moonlight The thorn bird’s cry, her last release A dying song that brought her peace
