Venit Esau (Esau is Coming)
[Intro – Soft lute + distant hurdy-gurdy, lone monk chant] Reconciliare, Domine… Fratres in unum… (Psalm 133:1 adapted) [Verse 1 – Slow, melancholic clean vocals, minor key] Four hundred swords at his back, red dust on the wind, Twenty years of hatred burning where a birthright had been. Jacob bowed seven times, face to the ground in fear, Expecting blood for blood, yet mercy drew near. [Pre-Chorus – Choir enters gently] Venit Esau currentem obviam ei… Et amplexus est eum (Genesis 33:4 – “Esau ran to meet him… and embraced him”) [Chorus – Soaring, major-key explosion, massive choir] Venit Esau! Venit Esau! With tears instead of spears! Venit Esau! Venit Esau! The hunter forgave the thief of years! Neck to neck they wept, the past fell away, Grace ran faster than vengeance that day! [Verse 2 – Galloping groove, triumphant] The wronged became the welcomer, the robbed became the host, Four hundred armed men stood down at the sight of a brother’s ghost. Gifts refused, then accepted, pride melted in the sun, Two nations born of wrath became two brothers made one. [Verse 3 – Haunting recorder + soft growl] Jacob spoke with trembling: “I have seen your face As though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.” (Genesis 33:10) The deceiver finally spoke truth, and it set them both free. [Bridge – Half-time, choir in Latin then English] Et osculatus est eum, et fleverunt… Esau raised him up and kissed him, and they wept together. [Breakdown – Unexpectedly gentle, almost acoustic] No swords were drawn, No arrows flew, Only open arms And “My brother, it is you.” [Final Chorus – Epic, everything lifted high] Venit Esau! Venit Esau! Mercy outran the spear! Venit Esau! Venit Esau! Love killed the hate of twenty years! From this embrace a nation learns its greatest fight is won When the prodigal and the offended become again as one! [Outro – Gregorian chant swells then fades] Ecce quam bonum et quam iucundum Habitare fratres in unum (Psalm 133:1 – “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity”) Pax… Amen.
