[Verse 1] Lay my clothes out neat By the foot of the bed Wash the day from my hands Put the bruised one to rest Fold the blankets slow Like a flag in the rain Set my shoes by the door Let the old ache drain [Pre-Chorus] Now the hour is thin And the room holds still I’m walking down To a softer hill [Chorus] Carry me down Carry me down To the long white hush To the long white hush Carry me down Carry me down I’m ready to sleep I’m ready to sleep [Verse 2] Take the lamp from the wall Let the shadow grow wide Leave one small crack of moon At the edge by my side If I call in my dream Let the cold wind say It was only the night Taking names away [Pre-Chorus] Now the hour is thin And the room holds still I’m walking down To a softer hill [Chorus] Carry me down Carry me down To the long white hush To the long white hush Carry me down Carry me down I’m ready to sleep I’m ready to sleep [Bridge] No more burden on my chest No more marching in my bones Just the dark with open hands Just the quiet taking home [Final Chorus] Carry me down Carry me down To the long white hush To the long white hush Carry me down Carry me down I’m ready to sleep I’m ready to sleep
