Back in the ancient of days A people wandered along desert ways Leaving their bondage of darkness and death by cloud, by fire, by the power of God’s breath Towards the sea a people were led Pursued by a Pharaoh who wanted them dead In panic they cried their redemption forgotten Lost in their fears with their idols besotten [Chorus] Why is it hard to have faith? To rest in God’s goodness and grace. When you’ve seen His powerful might…in the storm and darkness of night Yet, Yahweh opened the waters Dry land appeared for His sons and his daughters They passed through the deep, the seas stood up high A song of salvation the people would cry The enemy’s drowned! A watery grave… The people of Yahweh no longer the slave But long was the path to that which was promised Their praises were hallow and hearts were dishonest The lips of the people proclaimed Allegiance to Yahweh, yet their hearts were sin stained They yearned to return to the slavery behind To the leeks, to the fish, to their bondage they pined [Chorus] Why is it hard to have faith? To rest in God’s goodness and grace. When you’ve seen His powerful might…in the storm and darkness of night So what about you? This time in your life Are you trusting in Yahweh a’midst all the strife? Are there armies behind and seas to the fore? Do they cause you to fear like never before? Though the LORD has sustained you, do you yearn for the past? A mirage of sustaining which never will last The land of your bondage seems to offer repose What Pharaoh calls you…….to sin’s empty throes? Look back to the cloud…remember the fire When God breathed upon you His holy desire He leads you through desert, through hunger, through pain To the Kingdom of Heaven…where Jesus reigns [Chorus] Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith. To rest in your goodness and grace. For I’ve seen your powerful might…in my storms and the darkness of night
