[Verse] From the crevice of a temple came a wailing And a thousand was their number And they fled unto the valley in the darkness And a thousand was their number And I followed 'til the night became the morning And a thousand was their number And they told me of their name and of their suffering And a thousand was their number [Chorus] They were cast out from the kingdom and were taken from the city As the wrath of God did burn And the fire and the smoke rose from the children of the desert Never to return And they said unto me "Can you help us? Can you bring us to our city and our king?" And I saw the river Jordan and I led them to the water And they washed themselves clean They washed themselves clean They washed themselves clean They washed themselves clean They washed themselves clean [Verse 2] Then I gathered them together in the morning And a thousand was their number And I saw the hand of God before us moving And a thousand was their number And I led them through the desert Through the water And a thousand was their number 'Til I brought them to the temple of their fathers And a thousand was their number [Chorus] And the angel of the Lord appeared before me in the temple And she came unto me And she said "Thou art a savior of the children of the desert Thou art blessed of me" And she said unto me "Go in peace Go and rest thy weary head And return unto thy people And return unto thy city and thy king" And I saw the river Jordan And I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean I washed myself clean
