Top Shelf

Yeah… Mos Jeph. Uh-huh… Top shelf… Top shelf wisdom gatherin dusttttt… Whole world movin fast but they forgot who to trusttttt… Everybody scrollin, nobody sittin with they thoughts… Whole library cryin while the timelines get boughttttt… Top shelf… Top shelf… Real gems buried where attention never dweltttt… Mama used to fall asleep with a paperback folded on her chest Now everybody thumb-scrollin dopamine directly into stress Whole train silent but the silence ain’t peace Just a thousand glowing screens feedin algorithms to the beast Goddamn… Used to argue over authors Now it’s outrage by the hour Whole culture speed-runnin thought Like attention got devoured I miss bookstores smellin like dust and rebellion Old heads pointin at Baldwin like read this if you feelin disconnected Now kids know brand slogans better than metaphors Can’t stomach one chapter unless a clip got subtitles for it Sheeeesh… Top shelf knowledge gettin buried by convenience Everybody well informed But nobody read the ingredients Whole world loud as hell Still starving for articulation Short-form rage turned nuanced thought into decoration Top shelf wisdom gatherin dusttttt… Whole world movin fast but they forgot who to trusttttt… Everybody scrollin, nobody sittin with they thoughts… Whole library cryin while the timelines get boughttttt… Top shelf… Top shelf… Real gems buried where attention never dweltttt… I’m from the era of dog-eared pages and margin notes Now people quote captions they don’t understand for social votes Whole intellect outsourced to recommendation engines People braggin I don’t read like ignorance prestigious Crazy… Wake up… See the library empty but the liquor store packed That’s a whole dissertation hidden deep in the facts Politicians love exhausted people skimmin headlines Hard to fight manipulation when nobody reads between lines Brain fried — timeline, rage bait, fake hype Eight tabs open, can’t focus for eight lines Think-piece culture got everybody performin intellect But ask ’em read a full book and suddenly they need rest Heavy chest Whole generation mentally stretched Knowledge sold separately, wisdom ain’t included in the set Bookmarks gather dust while the comment sections flex Everybody got opinions Barely anybody got depth Slow down… Books taught me patience. Taught me how to sit inside discomfort long enough to grow from it. Taught me every human being complicated. Now everything instant. Even empathy got a refresh rate. Damn… I seen beautiful minds reduced to reaction machines People skim one paragraph then weaponize what they think it means Whole damn planet addicted to immediate certainty Nobody humble enough to say: I might need to research before speakin publicly. Top shelf… Still hidden where the shallow never lookkkkk… Whole damn world forgot the power of a bookkkkk… Maybe truth still waitin in the quiet somewhereee… Past the noise… Past the ego… Past the manufactured fearrrrr… Mos Jeph. Read somethin, damn…
