[Liminal Darkwave, Female Narrator, "Tape-Worn Architecture"] [Intro | close-mic spoken, fluorescent room tone] I woke behind a counter shutter, my cheek against carpet the color of filing folders. A taped rectangle boxed my shoes. I took it for a waiting mark. The wall card said, RETURN EACH ITEM TO ITS OUTLINE. (read it again) [Verse 1 | spoken confession, distant degraded piano] A plastic fern leaned beyond a square of tape. I nudged the pot until its base fit clean. Every ceiling panel blinked together. The confirmation tone was almost sweet. Then the fern was gone, and the square held only carpet. [narration lifts into melody] Back in the outli-i-ine, back where it belongs. (all is right) [Verse 2 | restrained melody, architecture widening] The terminal showed one word, UNCLAIMED. An umbrella lay across a long taped slot. I folded it neatly into place. The air grille stopped. When it resumed, the umbrella was gone, and the shelves stood farther from me. A red binder waited crooked beside the terminal. I centered it. My next breath came back from farther away. [narration lifts into melody] Back in the outli-i-ine, the room knows where it belongs. (the room knows) [Verse 3 | whispered narration, tonal layers dropping out] A claim slip curled from the machine. NAME: blank. MATERIAL: breathing. CONDITION: remembers an entrance. I laughed once because the paper had no joke. The taped box beneath me tightened at the corners. I stepped aside. It moved with me. (don't follow) [half-sung, melody incomplete] Back in the outli-i-ine, back where I... [Verse 4 | flat and controlled, sub pressure rising] The wall card changed while I watched the floor. RETURN THE LAST ITEM TO ITS OUTLINE. On the terminal, DESCRIPTION appeared: female voice, speaking to remain calm, claims she entered on her own. A narrow lamp lowered above me. The mark around my shoes wasn't for waiting. It matched the space I occupied. (I know now) [narration becomes melodic] Back in my outli-i-ine, I am where I belong. [Verse 5 | breathless narration, widening reverb] I ran through the counter gap. The carpet repeated ahead, same yellow tape, same black staple near my shoe. Every direction returned me to the terminal. The ceiling gave its sweet approval. Something was taken before I could leave, the memory of arriving. [the line returns, widened and distant] Back in the outli-i-ine, back where it belongs. (all is right...) [Outro | empty room tone, voice absorbed into ceiling] The claims room holds nothing out of place. The printer feeds one clean slip with no name and no description. From the ceiling, my voice says, put it back. (back in the line...) [Fade to End] [End]
