Spoke and broke Over the withering body That wanted to save itself In the spring Under excuses and contortions. Each breath a memory, A photo of staying That yellowed under the fingers, As if holding with all its might My hand of the moment's Vain now. My loneliness I would like to give away and distribute Among the people And hurry along the path Towards the sea. There where stones Crunch under my steps And cicadas wait for me Among shrubs and bushes. My eye sees the horizon And the golden water, That silently rests upon The gaze, On broken waves on the beach. Seagulls laugh, pale in the day's Glow And my step sways as if in a dance, Down to the sea's edge, Over pebbles and pine needles, Past decayed beauty, Along Ruins of former glory. Ash dusts under each step, History swirls under the heels And the ocean rolls insatiable On the shore's gravel heaps. Wave upon wave wants to land Like the breath into the lung And out of the chest the breath, Giving and taking, Bestowing and gasping.
