Roots of Karametra - Return Me To The Garden
There’s a crack in the refinery floor Big enough now for saplings Big enough for the rain to remember Where the creek used to run I saw vines climb the smokestacks Like veins reclaiming dead limbs Slow and patient as forgiveness Taking back what was stolen And the old men on the corner said “This world got too loud to hear itself think.” But I swear Some nights the wind still carries singing From somewhere beneath the rust Just let me rest where the cicadas sing And the soil still knows my name Return me to the garden When my hands can’t carry anymore Lay me down where the fig roots spread Through the ruins of the old world Let the river pull the iron from me Let the moss climb through my ribs If there’s peace beyond this living It sounds like summer through the leaves I knew a woman growing tomatoes Inside an abandoned bank She laughed like somebody Who stopped being afraid years ago Children painted flowers on floodwalls Bees nested inside traffic lights And every little act of kindness Felt illegal in those days We used to dream about escape Like heaven was somewhere else entirely Now I think it might just be A place where nothing living Has to earn the right to exist Just let me rest where the cicadas sing And the soil still knows my name Return me to the garden Where the branches touch like hands Where the dead become the wildflowers And feed the living once again Let the rainfall wash the static From the wires in my soul If love survives the ending Then the roots already know Maybe eternity is simple A lantern light in the evening The breeze near an open window The smell of rain in dark soil Somebody humming while they work Maybe paradise was never missing Maybe we buried it ourselves Just let me rest where the cicadas sing And the soil still knows my name Return me to the garden To the place beneath the noise Where the earth still speaks in slow tongues And every creature has a voice Let me fade into the green world Into cedar, creek, and stone And if something waits beyond me May it feel like coming home
