Gandalf: Now mind yourselves… He is not unfriendly, neither is he tame. Come in pairs, as I’ve told you. Speak plainly. And whatever you do — do not anger him. Beorn: Gandalf… It has been long Gandalf: Too long, old friend. I come seeking shelter — and peace — for a company on a hard road. Beorn: A… company? Gandalf: Indeed, I accompany a couple of Travelers… Old friend I’ve not seen in many a year, Your hall stands strong, your hearth stays warm. I’ve wandered far to find you here, And brought a few seeking shelter from tonight's storm. Ah yes— a pair, just at the door. May I introduce, with honest cheer, Thorin, traveler of mountain lore, And Dwalin, faithful, standing near. Indeed— more shall come to rest: Balin, wise in tale and tongue, And Fíli, quick among the best, Whose feet have marched since spring was young. A few more wanderers seeking peace: Kíli, bold of heart and stride, And Óin, whose craft will never cease, With fire and forge at his side. Ah— more companions of the road: Glóin, sturdy, strong of hand, And Dori, bearer of many a load, Who’s stood his ground in every land. Another pair— no cause for fear: Nori, nimble as any breeze, And Ori, chronicler held dear, Whose pen keeps faithful histories. And here— two more who braved the wild: Biffor, quiet, steady, true, And Bahfor, mountain‑hall’s bright child, Whose songs can mend a weary crew. Our final travelers kind and fair: Bombur, gentle, loyal, round, Whose spirit’s larger than his share, And whose laughter’s always sound. And last, but not least, a fellow small and keen, A quiet soul of careful will. A traveler seldom heard or seen: I give to you, Mr. Underhill. Beorn: Gandalf you old fool.
