[Intro: A playful music-box melody over a bouncy hip-hop beat. Soft humming in the background.] Well, hello there, darlin', how's your day? Lovely weather to be out this way. No need to worry, no need to stare, Just a little patient getting fresh air. Everybody knows me, everybody smiles, I've been walking these halls for quite a while. No one's asking questions, no one's checking twice, Oh, darlin', isn't trust just nice? [Verse 1: Light, playful rap with a smug delivery.] I don't start trouble, I don't throw the first hit, I don't need a weapon just to deal with it. Someone gets nasty, I just step aside, Give 'em one good slap, let 'em reconsider their pride. I don't hit hard, I don't hit fast, But darlin', darlin', how long will that last? One little push and you're frozen in place, Now excuse me, sweetheart, I've got somewhere to be, just in case. I wave to the guards, I smile at the staff, Tell a little joke, make the whole room laugh. They say I'm harmless, they say I'm polite, So nobody minds when I'm out of their sight. [Pre-Chorus: The beat becomes quieter. A faint ticking sound begins.] Oh, darlin', don't be suspicious. Oh, darlin', I'm not malicious. You can watch the doors, you can watch the stairs, But who's watching me when I'm already there? [Chorus: Bright synths, catchy melody, layered backing vocals.] Darlin', darlin', don't you fret, I'm the sweetest patient you've met yet. No big bad fists, no murderous grin, Just let your favorite little patient in. Darlin', darlin', take my hand, I'll show you places you don't understand. I'm just a sweetheart, soft and small, The safest little patient in the whole asylum. "Now, isn't that nice?" [Verse 2: The bass grows heavier. The cheerful melody remains.] Funny little boxes tucked away, Funny how they find me every day. Funny little vents with room to crawl, Funny how nobody checks at all. Darlin', hold the door, I'll only be a minute, There's a whole lot of trouble and I might fit in it. Oh, that medic looks tired, perhaps they need a rest, Don't worry, darlin', I'll handle the rest. A borrowed coat, a different face, A little less suspicion when I leave the place. And if somebody asks what happened that night, I'll look them in the eyes and say, "Everything's all right." [Beat cuts out.] "Who, me?" [Two seconds of silence.] [The beat returns with distorted bass.] [Chorus: Sung more sweetly than before, with an unsettling undertone.] Darlin', darlin', don't you fret, I'm the sweetest patient you've met yet. No one suspects me, nobody knows, How far a little bit of kindness goes. Darlin', darlin', smile for me, Isn't this where I'm supposed to be? No need for alarms, no need for a fuss, You trusted me, darlin'... And I trusted you. [Bridge: Music-box melody alone. Almost whispered singing.] They watch the violent. They watch the strange. They watch the ones who scream and rage. But who's watching the darling Who never complains? Who's watching the patient Who remembers your name? [Beat builds slowly.] [Final Chorus: Full drums and bass, cheerful vocals now slightly distorted.] Darlin', darlin', here I am, Sweetest face in the whole program. You can lock the doors, you can check the hall, But you can't keep track of everyone at all. Darlin', darlin', what a shame, Everybody knows me by my name. No one's afraid, nobody's alarmed, After all, what could happen to someone so harmless? [Sudden silence.] "Run along, darlin'." [Footsteps. A distant alarm begins.] [Outro: The music-box melody plays slower and slightly out of tune.] Well, goodbye now, darlin'. It's been lovely, dear. Don't look so frightened. I'll probably still be here. [One final music-box note.]
