[Verse 1] A German monk, with hammer bold, Nailed theses to the chapel door! Luther said The Christian shoemaker does his duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes! [Chorus] Heave ho, for Luther, strong and free! Sola Scriptura, the decree! Heave ho, justification's might! By faith alone, we win the fight! [Verse 2] Before the powers, stern and grim, He would not bend, he would not sway! Luther said Here I stand; I can do no other, God help me. Amen! [Chorus] Heave ho, for Luther, strong and free! Sola Scriptura, the decree! Heave ho, justification's might! By faith alone, we win the fight! [Verse 3] The simplest soul with God's own Word, Outweighs the Pope in all his pride! Luther said A simple layman armed with Scripture is greater than the mightiest pope without it! [Chorus] Heave ho, for Luther, strong and free! Sola Scriptura, the decree! Heave ho, justification's might! By faith alone, we win the fight! [Verse 4] True faith's a trust, alive and bold, Luther said Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times! Let God take hold, the story's told, Luther said Pray, and let God worry! Though darkness falls and worlds may cease, Luther said Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree! [Chorus] Heave ho, for Luther, strong and free! Sola Scriptura, the decree! Heave ho, justification's might! By faith alone, we win the fight!
