Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. A bit more. Not right now. Later. Just wait. Tick-tock. It’s “later,” then it’s “wait.” We often say, “It’s not the time.” And yet another day slips by. There’s still a thing or two to do. We’ll live in peace when we are through. And that is how our days slip by. Just a bit more, then we’ll be free. At last, our turn to live our lives. Tick-tock. It’s “later,” then it’s “wait.” But time has never learned to wait. Sometimes we choose, sometimes we can’t. Yet time moves on through all of that. You wait for news—no word comes through. For a decision? Nothing new. They tell you, “Wait a little bit. Not ready yet. Just wait for it.” Not every choice is ours to make. Some things take all the time they take. You cannot hurry things along. And time moves on while hope holds on. Tick-tock. It’s “later,” then it’s “wait.” But time has never learned to wait. Sometimes we choose, sometimes we can’t. Yet time moves on through all of that. There’s always something missing still. Each time, a different gap to fill. Sometimes it’s strength, or time, or warmth. Or answers we are waiting for. What matters most to us today Will change tomorrow anyway. Just when you think, “It’s almost here,” And suddenly, new needs appear. A bit more. One more day. One more month. One more year. Later. While you wait for one thing to come, The rest of life keeps moving on. Sometimes, what you’ve been waiting for No longer matters as before. What hardly mattered yesterday Is something you won’t give away. And by the time the answer comes— We’re asking different questions now. Sometimes we’re waiting for a sign, While someone waits for just our “yes.” Tick-tock. It’s “later,” then it’s “wait.” But time has never learned to wait. Sometimes we choose, sometimes we can’t. Yet time moves on through all of that. Tick. Tock. A bit more. Not right now. Later.
