[Verse 1] They called it strange when I changed the design Said keep it simple, stay inside the line I kept a notebook full of crooked plans And bolts and sketches scattered on my hands [Pre-Chorus] What looks out of place today Could be the shape of things by May [Chorus] How the weird becomes tomorrow’s norm I’m just ahead of my time They’ll call it ordinary when the world catches on I’m just ahead of my time [Verse 2] A paper prototype, a borrowed room The first small test went up in smoke too soon You saw a flaw; I saw a different door So I went back and built a little more [Pre-Chorus] What sounds impossible right now May be the thing they’re asking for somehow [Chorus] How the weird becomes tomorrow’s norm I’m just ahead of my time They’ll call it ordinary when the world catches on I’m just ahead of my time [Breakdown] Not wrong—just early Not lost—just turning Not wrong—just early Watch the whole room learn it [Bridge] Keep the rough draft, keep the bent first frame A future’s never born with a familiar name If they need a minute, let the minute pass I’ll be here making what they haven’t asked [Final Chorus] How the weird becomes tomorrow’s norm I’m just ahead of my time They’ll call it ordinary when the world catches on I’m just ahead of my time How the weird becomes tomorrow’s norm I’m just ahead of my time They’ll call it ordinary when the world catches on I’m just ahead of my time [Outro] Just ahead of my time Just ahead of my time
