[Verse 1] In the garden where the river bends Two bare feet and a world without an end A voice curled low through the leaves and shade Asking what the Maker’s word forbade [Pre-Chorus] She saw the fruit, red under the sun He stood beside her, saying nothing, not a one A promise tasted like a blade And the morning turned afraid [Chorus] We opened our eyes, and the silence broke Covered our hearts in a veil of smoke The ground knew our names, the heavens withdrew A door swung shut on the world we knew We opened our eyes We opened our eyes [Verse 2] Where are you hiding? the Holy One called Behind the branches, frightened and small The man pointed east, the woman named the snake Every tongue found someone else to blame [Pre-Chorus] The curse ran down through dust and bone Pain in the birthright, thorns in the stone Still, beneath the sentence laid A promise that would not fade [Chorus] We opened our eyes, and the silence broke Covered our hearts in a veil of smoke The ground knew our names, the heavens withdrew A door swung shut on the world we knew We opened our eyes We opened our eyes [Bridge] East of Eden, fire in the night Cherubim guarding what was once our right Leather on our shoulders, tears on our face Exiled from the garden, still marked by grace [Guitar Solo] [Final Chorus] We opened our eyes, but the story goes on Under a wounded sky, beneath a rising dawn The ground bears our footsteps, the years carry through A promise in the distance calling us home anew We opened our eyes We opened our eyes And walked into the world [Outro] East of Eden, beyond the flame Dust in our lungs, but we still bear the Name
