Sedated (Tube's Cover)
Another sunrise, same old ride, Burn another match and climb. Boss man's counting head and hide, I'm counting ways to kill the time. Every mile's another scar, Every fence another line. Everybody needs these wings... Till they don't need mine. I'm sedated... let that engine moan, Only peace I've ever known. I'm sedated... smoke fills my chest, Trying to outrun what's left. If this old bird falls from the sky... Tell 'em I was working when I died. Coyotes run where cattle fade, Buzzards circle debts unpaid. I patch the holes nobody sees, Then disappear like prairie breeze. Right hand when the shit goes wrong, Forgotten when the work is done. Just another ghost in boots... Burning underneath the sun. I'm sedated... throttle to the floor, Always giving just a little more. I'm sedated... cigarette burns low, Hell's the only road I know. If they remember me at all... It'll be the day they get the call. Every promise tastes like dust, Every paycheck feeds the rust. Fuel and tobacco, all I buy, Trying not to wonder why. God don't answer over static, The devil never missed a call. Funny how the empty sky... Knows my name better than them all. So light another, push the nose, Fly too fast where no one goes. Maybe one day I'll disappear, Nothing left but smoke out here. No parade, no folded flag, Just another wreck they'll drag. Boss'll find another hand... Before the ashes hit the sand. I'm sedated... dead behind these eyes, Still punching holes through western skies. I'm sedated... one more lonely flight, Keeping someone else's world upright. They'll say I was a hell of a hand... Then forget my name with the shifting sand.
