Glass Houses (Post-Privacy Parable)
[Verse 1] It started with a simple shimmer in the walls, Perhaps a trick of light, or a subtle, quiet flaw. We laughed it off without a care—just something funny in the air, But still spoke in whispers…though we knew no one could be there. [Verse 2] Then fuzzy outlines turned silhouettes and shapes, The hidden rooms, though once concealed, no longer locked away. A thousand little lives and more, now clearly on display— We braced ourselves for judgment--It was coming, any day. [Pre-Chorus] Our secrets rose like dust in sudden light, Every wrong on full display, and every private fight— We waited, hushed with bated breath, for the hurtful stones to fly… [Chorus] But no one threw the stones. Not a one of us could take a side. Not when every window showed the truth we tried to hide. We all stood there as one, Seen each one through and through— And found out everyone we feared, turn out, they're human too. [Verse 3] The scandals came and went—no way to look aside, So things got faced instead of merely hushed and sent to hide. Apologies that in our past would never seem to land Were spoken plain through sun and rain… now that the truth could stand. [Verse 4] The little things we thought unique, that we could never share— The awkward flaws, the quiet hurt, the constant private care— They lost their weight when everyone could turn and plainly see They weren’t so rare, no not at all…they were humanity. [Pre-Chorus 2] Every crack and dent, and every hidden seam, Every fight to pay the rent, and all the in-between— Nothing left to weaponize…when plainly truth is seen [Chorus] So no one threw the stones. It seems that no one even tried. Not when every truth was seen, then gently laid aside. We all stood there, prepared for war But with nothing left to prove— And found instead inside our heads a different way to move. [Bridge – soft realization] We feared the end of privacy, Like something sacred lost. But maybe it was never there— We never paid the cost And something that we valued high That everyone could see Was soon to be a silly joke We saw as fantasy. [Final Chorus – lift] And no one threw the stones. We couldn't, anymore. When every wall we tried to build Became an open door. We all stood there with open hearts, With open eyes to view— And built a world of clearest glass Where truth could freely move. [Outro] We're all living in glass houses… All the way down… And not a single throwing stone Not one to be found.
