Great is the Lord, and greatly praised In Zion’s towers, by grace upraised— Her holy heights, a boundless sight, The joy of earth, the world’s delight. There God is known, a mighty keep, When kings conspired in folly deep. They saw, they shook, they fled in dread, As trembling seized them, vanquished, fled. Like ships that wrestle with the gale, They broke and found no hope to sail— So melts the heart when God appears, And scatters all its boastful fears. Now walk her ramparts, gaze and see Her strength, her walls, her majesty! Count every tower, mark them well, And to the sons of Zion tell: "This God is ours, forevermore, Our guide through time, our steadfast shore." For He will lead us, strong and true, And deathless praise shall be His due.
