Pick A Side (Dane Mercer/WAR)

STUDIO

Doing a little world building because that is one of the things I do enjoy most. So, introducing the first member of "The Fifth Horseman" a little experimental band thing I am trying. Depending how well these go will decide how far I continue this world building experiment. WAR - Dane Mercer Age: 37 Band position: Lead guitar, secondary harsh vocals Demo track: PICK A SIDE Dane has that irritating natural charisma where you know he’s provoking you and somehow answer him anyway. He’s competitive about virtually everything, but he doesn’t sulk when he loses. Beat him fairly and you’ve probably just earned his respect. Visually, he’s the least “goth” member. Modern military-punk rather than costume military: battered black cargos, combat boots, old field jackets, fitted tees, wrist wraps, dog tags he refuses to explain. Short dark hair beginning to gray around the temples, permanently rough stubble, several old scars. Nothing ornamental unless it has a story. Onstage, Dane moves constantly. He plays toward people, not toward his instrument. Gets right to the edge of the stage, makes eye contact, challenges the crowd. His guitar work is confrontational: hard rhythmic attacks, ugly dissonances, sudden technical bursts, riffs that feel like arguments. His speaking voice is a warm, slightly gravelly mid-baritone. Surprisingly pleasant until you realize what he’s saying. His singing is rough but intelligible, halfway between shouted melody and controlled aggression. He and Filthborn clash more than anybody else because neither naturally yields ground. They also trust each other enormously because of it. Typical Dane: “I didn’t start the argument. I just noticed everybody was lying.”
