[Verse 1] You said "forever" Over diner coffee Syrup on your thumb You touched it to my cheek We were half asleep Sunday in our sneakers Laughing at the rain Like it could never reach us [Chorus] You said "forever" Like it was a place we'd drive Windows down Your hand Drawing circles in the sky Now I'm on this highway Counting exits Changing weather Feels like it was only Forever for a minute Forever for a minute With you [Verse 2] Your jacket on my chair Still smells like July Sunburn on your nose You tried to hide in every photo I keep the porch light on Like you just ran inside To grab your keys Your phone And you'd be back in five [Chorus] You said "forever" Like it was a place we'd drive Windows down Your hand Drawing circles in the sky Now I'm on this highway Counting exits Changing weather Feels like it was only Forever for a minute Forever for a minute With you [Bridge] Maybe you meant it For who we were then Two kids in a moment Too big to understand I still taste that promise Sweet and a little bitter I still hear you whisper "Stay with me forever" [Chorus] You said "forever" Like it was a place we'd drive Windows down Your hand Drawing circles in the sky I'm still on this highway Same old signs Same broken letters Singin' it was only Forever for a minute Forever for a minute But my heart's there Forever for a minute With you (oh) Forever for a minute Forever for a minute But my heart's there Forever for a minute With you (oh)
