The Road to Zion

My wings glazed over in silent sky Too long still, I forgot to try High above but going nowhere Breathing thin but lifeless air Perched in stone on canyon side Watching seasons turn and slide Feathers stiff from standing still Frozen by a fading will Life don’t come to those who wait Stillness seals a silent fate If I stay, I slowly die Ice will claim these wings of mine I soar through the burning air Break the frost that held me there My goal is Zion, sacred sky I need a reason left to fly Heat rising from the stone Golden cliffs that stand alone No more still and no more numb I rise again, I overcome Rivers etch the ancient land Silver lines through rock and sand I trace their path across the plain Toward the heights I must attain Sandstone towers red and tall Ancient watchmen over all Sacred ground in open sky Zion waits and so will I Sunlight blazing off the crest Test my wings, heat on my chest If I fall, I fall alive Not frozen on a canyon side I soar through the burning air Break the frost that held me there My goal is Zion, sacred sky I found the reason now to fly Heat rising from the stone Sacred cliffs that call me home Wings of iron cutting higher I rise above toward Zion
