Still on the Desk

(Verse 1) It’s still on the desk where I left it last night, Not wrong, not right. I keep walking past it, pretending I don’t see The way it’s looking back at me. I’ve trimmed the edges, cleaned the mess, But something’s off, I can’t confess. It almost fits the shape I planned— Or maybe that was never the plan. (Pre-Chorus) I tilt my head, I read it twice, Try to hear it without the noise. (Chorus) Is this on brand, or just on time? Is it mine, or just passing by? Do I hold it close, do I let it go? Did I miss a piece I don’t yet know? I don’t hate it, I don’t love it yet, It’s not done, but it’s not a mess. I wish it’d tell me what it needs— For now it’s still on the desk with me. (Verse 2) I’ve scrapped things faster than they deserved, Kept others just because I worked. Sometimes I cut before they breathe, Sometimes I wait for certainty. I ask myself too many times If it sounds like me or just sounds fine. I turn it sideways, dim the light, Looking for the missing line. (Pre-Chorus 2) If I step back, will it speak? Or am I standing in my own way? (Chorus) Is this on brand, or just on time? Is it truth, or a placeholder rhyme? Do I polish it, do I let it rest? Is it almost there or not its best? I don’t want to rush, I don’t want regret, I don’t want fear to make the call for me yet. I wish it’d tell me what it needs— For now it’s still on the desk with me. (Bridge) Maybe it’s waiting for another song, Maybe it’s right where it belongs. Maybe I’m asking it to be Something it never promised me. I don’t need answers tonight, Just honesty, even if it’s quiet. (Final Chorus) So I’ll leave it here, not push, not erase, Let it breathe in its unfinished space. If it stays, I’ll know it’s true, If it fades, that’s honest too. I’m learning not every spark needs a flame, Not every doubt means it’s wrong or should change. I don’t need to decide everything— For now it’s still on the desk with me. (Outro) I’ll come back when I’m less afraid. It’s not going anywhere. Neither am I.
