The Day The Shadows Danced

Dry wooden hand-drums and low toms, close-mic’d gravelly male vocal, Verse almost spoken over sparse pulse; chorus swells with droning cello, harmonium pads, and gang shouts on key lines, Earthy reverb, intimate and ominous, slow tempo with a hypnotic, circling groove

V4.5-ALL

[Verse 1] The sky darkened Middle of the day Crows on the fence All facing this way Your name on my tongue Tasted like rain Dust on the window Shook like a train [Chorus] The day the shadows danced Round our crooked door (hey) They climbed the kitchen walls They crawled across the floor You said “it’s just the clouds” But I could feel them change The day the shadows danced Nothing felt the same [Verse 2] Coffee went cold Steam turned thin Dog wouldn’t cross The yard you’re in Wind held its breath Leaves held their place Every old picture Looked like your face [Chorus] The day the shadows danced Round our crooked door (oh) They climbed the kitchen walls They crawled across the floor You said “it’s just the clouds” But I could feel them change The day the shadows danced Nothing felt the same [Bridge] They slid under my feet They rose over your eyes You laughed like it was a joke I heard something reply (mm) [Chorus] The day the shadows danced Round our crooked door They climbed the kitchen walls They crawled across the floor You said “we’ll be alright” I heard the silence say The day the shadows danced You slowly slipped away
