The Light Was On

[Verse 1] I said I would be back by nine and then it was eleven and then it was a year, and then it was a different country [Pre-Chorus] And every single time I came up that same road, in the dark [Chorus] The light was on, the light was on you never once asked where I had gone you just kept it burning in the hall and let me come home at all the light was on [Verse 2] You could have made me say it out you could have made me earn it anybody else would have and you never even mentioned it [Pre-Chorus] And now it is my hand on the switch and somebody else is late [Chorus] The light was on, the light was on you never once asked where I had gone you just kept it burning in the hall and let me come home at all the light was on [Bridge] I am leaving it on tonight I am leaving it on all night whoever is coming up that road will see it from the turn
