Β© JP Asher 2026 _____________ This song is a contribution to two events - it is both my entry for the first round of the Prompt Roulette tournament on The Soundry, and my theme song for the character Phoenix as part of the Sunoverse project run by Jaden Writes. Scroll down to see a character profile for Phoenix. As part of the Prompt Roulette tournament, the style prompt "future funk; gothic doom | choral | vocal house; (melodic deathcore)" was locked in. _____________ Risin' from the fire, an' I'm Takin' ya higher, I'll be the Quantifier, hard Philadelphia Flyer, can't hold me Down, loud and proud, got me Ground in the sound, lost and Found, round and round, beats are Starting to pay Can't make me break, all the Hate I can take, I'm no Fake, it's too late, shake an' Bake in the bass Shiftin' dead weight, syncopating The pace, ain't no Race, I'm awake, pure Embracin' my fate Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix... Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix... _____________ Character: Phoenix Alignment: Hero Logline: A traumatised and vulnerable girl who is nevertheless unbroken and unbreakable, a heroine of compassion and healing. Phoenix rises not alone, but with and for others. Her pain has made her unbreakable, but she chooses life, forgiveness and love. [Costume] Blue baseball cap, crop top in light blue, pink and white pattern, light blue and pink hair made of aux cords with 3.5mm jacks at the ends, light blue short shorts, pink trainers, white thigh-highs, pink leg warmers, dark blue wireless headset around her neck. [Instrument] Phoenix Bouzouki - an instrument of emotion, rather than of ego or force. Phoenix’s Irish bouzouki, with four pairs of strings, is made of crystal and glows from within with the image of a phoenix. Meaning and empathy flow from within. The syncretism of the instrument reflects aspects of Phoenix’s spirit; myth, fire and archetype married with survival, lamentation and tenderness, and given a modern EDM sheen … ancient feeling with a futuristic sound. [Powers] 1) Soul Search: Phoenix focuses on another’s innermost thoughts and profoundly empathises with them on an innate level, helping her to find ways to ease their pain and avoid conflict. 2) Golems: Phoenix speaks ancient words to summon Golems, vast colossi that shield and protect the vulnerable. 3) Solace: Phoenix plays her bouzouki to raise her allies’ spirits, comfort the pained, soften the hearts of threats (she dislikes referring to β€œenemies”), and raise moods in other ways. 4) Sacrifice: Phoenix wills the pain of less resilient innocents and wounded allies into herself to protect them. [Flaws] Reminders of past traumas, particularly those related to identity, can destabilise Phoenix and throw her off. Too much use of Sacrifice and/or Soul Search weakens her and can cause collateral damage or in extreme cases self-destructive behaviour. Over-vigilance - Phoenix is used to prejudice and hatred and so sometimes moves to defend herself or others in situations where no actual threat exists. [Theme] Guardian and protector, heroine of compassion and healing. She knows her worth not because she was granted it but because she earned it. A delicate and gentle but unbreakable force of courage, heart and soul. The fiery pain didn’t destroy her but rather forged and shaped her. She never seeks a fight, but defends, gives her all and never hesitates to follow the moral path. Phoenix is done justifying her existence. She wins not by destroying perceived enemies, but by lifting others up and continuing to shine.
