There’s a story ‘bout a man Who heard warnings of a storm Clouds were rolling in the sky But he felt safe at home The wind began to whisper Rain fell cold and strong They said, “You need to leave now” But he said they were wrong The police came to his doorway Said the water’s on its way “This storm will only get worse now You can’t afford to stay” He looked up toward heaven With unwavering faith And softly he answered “My God will keep me safe” The flood filled up the first floor Water rising fast Firemen reached to save him Said, “This moment may not last” They came there just to help him To lead his escape But still he kept on saying “My God will keep me safe” Sometimes heaven answers In ways we don’t expect Through hands that reach beside us Through love and through respect God sends help among us Not always wrapped in grace Open up your heart now And recognize His face The house was lost to water He stood upon the roof A helicopter found him Living final proof They dropped a line to save him Before it was too late But still his only answer “My God will keep me safe” The waters rose around him And carried him away He stood before the Lord then With questions left to say “Why didn’t You come save me? Why didn’t You appear?” The Lord spoke with compassion “My child, I sent help here…” “I sent the police to warn you Firemen at your door A helicopter from heaven What were they sent for?” We pray for God to fix things To take our pain away But love can come in strangers Standing in our way God walks beside His children Through paths we may not choose Open eyes and humble hearts Are faith we must not lose Is it pride that blinds us? Or pain we cannot see? Lord, open up our hearts now To all You send to me God will always guide us But choices still remain He helps us through the darkness If we receive His hand God will help… But we must choose the way
