[SENRITSU] - Staking Your Fate on a Temari Game
HOSI NO MAKIMONO Twenty-Fourth Release: "[SENRITSU] - Staking Your Fate on a Temari Game" There are no lyrics for this song. Instead, I invite you to listen closely and share with me what kind of story it is able to paint for you with instruments alone. [SENRITSU] is a short but extremely strong track in my eyes, featuring some of the best sound design of my songs and unique instrumentation that I don't often see utilized. Stone chimes have long been a favorite instrument of mine since I first tried using them in a song, and if anyone finds the inspiration to try them out themselves, I would love to hear it. Gather round, and hearken to this tale: Upon a deserted mountain pass, in the dead of a chilling winter night, the sound of a chime echoes through the fog. The air seems to part before you, beckoning your forth unto the grounds of an quaint village... seemingly abandoned. A second time, the chime rings, dense waves of cold mist cascading around you. This time, they carry with them a particular odor — the stench of decay; of death. Yet as you attempt to turn back, a third chime echoes, lifting the veil around you as a slice of moonlight pierces the clouds. There, upon the ground, it is illuminated plainly: dark stains in crimson, leading your gaze further to scraps of tattered cloth, fragments of shattered horns, and foul, festering lumps of- A fourth chime rings out from behind, and whirling around, you see it at its source. A lone oni, head crowned with horns stained in red, holding a temari ball that emits a shrill, haunting sound with every bounce. One eye blinks with pristine innocence, while the other is blood red, swirling with madness. Calling out with an lilting, ethereal voice, the oni invites you to join them in a game. No matter how innocent their tone, however, your instincts scream out against the palpable, impending danger. Yet before you can offer an answer, they blink out of your sight, dashing around madly while hurtling the temari at you from every possible angle. There movements are light, playful and childish, yet unfathombly rapid and violent all at once, demonstrating capability beyond human limits. No matter how dire the circumstances may seem, however, you find yourself constantly drawn back to those eyes. Buried beneath the madness lies a profound sadness, a tragically broken innocence, the flickering embers of a sincere kindness. They cry out for acknowledgement, for reassurance — a longing to return to peaceful, carefree days. A prayer for a brighter future. Indeed, amidst the cacophany of chimes, a faint echo seems to reach your ears. A soft, whispered, desperate cry. "I only wanted to save them..." I hope [SENRITSU] was able to illustrate this haunting and tragic little tale to you, and bring you some small sliver of enjoyment in the process. Please stay tuned for future releases.
