[Intro] What if the road to Jericho Was all He left behind? No creed to guard, no line to draw, Just mercy asking, “Will you stop this time?” [Verse 1] A wounded stranger in the dust, A priest walks by, a Levite too, Both knew the words, both knew the law, But knowing isn’t always what love will do. Then came the one they called “the other,” Wrong people, wrong blood, wrong side, He crossed the line they wouldn’t cross, And knelt down by the wounded man’s side. [Pre-Chorus] So tell me— What lines would you draw? How wide is your circle? Who gets to belong When love becomes uncomfortable? [Chorus] What if this were the whole Gospel? Love thy neighbour as thyself. Find God lying by the roadside, Serve Him where there’s no one else. No one above and no one below, No sacred “us,” no lesser “them.” If the Light is found in mercy, Then go and do likewise again. [Verse 2] What happens when the labels change? Believer, stranger, rich or poor, Different colour, different prayer, Someone you were taught to fear before. Can compassion ask their doctrine Before it binds a bleeding hand? Can mercy wait for agreement Before deciding where to stand? If kindness only loves the familiar, How far has kindness really grown? The heart begins to look like heaven When no suffering soul is left alone. [Pre-Chorus] So tell me— What lines would you draw? How wide is your circle? Who gets to belong When love begins to cost you? [Chorus] What if this were the whole Gospel? Love thy neighbour as thyself. Love your God by loving people, Especially those passed by everyone else. No one above and no one below, No sacred “us,” no lesser “them.” If the Light is found in mercy, Then go and do likewise again. [Bridge] Cushy service is still service, There is goodness in the easy things. But comfort rarely asks the ego To surrender what it thinks it means. To sit beside the overlooked, To touch the life the crowd avoids, To see a person, not a problem— That is where compassion finds its voice. It isn’t easy. Love never promised that. It asks us to loosen our grip on ourselves, To kneel in somebody else’s dust, And discover we were standing On holy ground all along. [Breakdown] Maybe the Gospel isn’t complicated. Maybe we made it so. Love God. Love your neighbour. Love yourself enough That you don’t need to stand above another soul. See suffering. Do not turn away. Cross the road. Kneel down. Help. [Final Chorus] What if this were the whole Gospel? Would anything be missing there? Love thy neighbour as thyself, Meet the wounded with compassionate care. No one above and no one below, No stranger standing outside the gate. If we want to follow Jesus, Then mercy cannot hesitate. What if this were the whole Gospel? Maybe simple doesn’t mean it’s small. For the road becomes the sanctuary When we learn to love them all. [Outro] The Light is already waiting Beside the ones we overlook. No sermon written, No title given, Just a wounded neighbour— And the question: Will you look? Will you stop? Will you cross the road? Will you love? Go, and do likewise.
