[Verse 1] Friday night in a two-room town Got my old black dress and my hair pinned down That man broke my heart on a Tuesday night But I ain't letting him ruin my Friday light There's a fiddle in the corner There's a bottle going round And the bass man keeps on telling me To put my troubles on the ground [Chorus] I'm gonna shake these blues away Shake 'em till the break of day Let the floorboards feel my pain Let the rhythm wash the rain I may cry when the music's through But tonight I got something to do I'm gonna shake, shake, shake these blues away Before they shake the life out of me [Verse 2] There's a woman by the jukebox With a sadness in her eyes She says, "Girl, don't waste your good years On a man who loves your cries" So I throw my head back laughing Though my heart ain't healed inside Sometimes you need a little music Just to keep your soul alive [Chorus] I'm gonna shake these blues away Shake 'em till the break of day Let the floorboards feel my pain Let the rhythm wash the rain I may cry when the music's through But tonight I got something to do I'm gonna shake, shake, shake these blues away Before they shake the life out of me [Bridge — call and response] [Lead: ] Can you feel that old backbeat? [Backing vocals:] Feel that backbeat! [Lead: ] Can you move them tired feet? [Backing vocals: ] Move them feet! [Lead:] I got sorrow in my soul! [Backing vocals: ] Let it go! [Lead: ] Got a long way left to go! [Backing vocals: ] Let it roll! [Final Chorus] Shake these blues away I ain't dying here today Let that guitar testify Let me dance instead of cry [Lead: ] Can you feel that old backbeat? [Backing vocals:] Feel that backbeat! [Lead: ] Can you move them tired feet? [Backing vocals: ] Move them feet! [Lead:] I got sorrow in my soul! [Backing vocals: ] Let it go! [Lead: ] Got a long way left to go! [Backing vocals: ] Let it roll!
