Faith
I stared at dirt Long enough to memorize Every single crack. Thought this hole was The only architecture Left for me. Cold hands, heavy chest, Sinking in the quiet Because it was easier Than standing up. There is a fracture In the ceiling now, A pale morning sliver Bleeding through the frost. I have to believe The ground holds firm I'd I reach up. Hold firm. Reach up. Hold firm. Pulling my weight Out of the gravity, Every muscle burning With a sudden faith In the outside. It took a reckoning To realize I held The shovel in my hands. I dug this grave, Yet I refuse To sleep in it Tonight. The air tastes different Up here now, Thinner, but it fills Deep in the lungs. I can see The horizon bend. The world is spinning And I spin with it, Tearing through dirt, Leaving cold behind. I trust the surface. I trust the morning. No more digging, Just climbing now, Just the ascent. Hands are cut, Feeling the warmth On my skin. The world did not Leave me behind. I stepped back Into the light. I am out Of the hole.
