The View from the Porch (Circus Act II)

"The View from the Porch (Circus Act II)" [Intro - Spoken Interlude - Sam (female)] (The track opens with the slow, rhythmic sound of a porch swing creaking and the distant hum of the Galveston tide. A heavy, sidechain-pumping 808 kicks in, locking with a dark, swampy acoustic riff. Spoken smooth, amused, and cynical.) They say if you sit still long enough, the whole world will walk right past your front door. The problem is, lately, the world is walking on its hands, wearing clown shoes, and arguing with the wind. The mechanic built the fortress, locked the gates, and now... he’s just sitting back with the sweet smoke, watching the show. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops into a dirty, hydraulic swamp-blues groove. The percussive banjo ticks like a ticking time bomb. Matt’s voice is rough, laughing darkly, and full of gravel.) I’m sitting on the porch, I’m leaning in my chair Watching all the chaos floating in the air The world is spinning sideways, the compass lost the true Everybody’s arguing about the color blue! I got my own gremlins, I got my own screws, But I’m just taking notes while I’m watching on the news! You can't take a hurricane, put it in a cup, And expect the whole society to hold the water up! I’m sitting on the island, laughing at the joke Blowing out a heavy cloud of sweet and sticky smoke! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A blues organ swells up, and the wailing harmonica blows a sarcastic, sliding note.) (Matt - male) The world went crazy... (Sam - female) ...and they threw away the keys! (Matt - male) Now the whole damn public... (Sam - female) ...is catching the disease! [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Explosive, heavy-stomping Southern rock-trap drop. The slide guitar with talk box screams a wildly melodic, laughing riff over a punchy kick drum.) (Matt - male) It’s a full-blown circus running in the street! (Sam - female) ...got the whole public tripping over their feet! (Matt - male) The logic left the building and the system fell apart! (Sam - female) ...leaving every citizen to play the heavy part! (Matt - male) I’m safely on the island, sitting by the wall! (Both) Watching from the fortress as it’s heading for the fall! Yeah, I might be crazy, but I’m laughing at the view— 'Cause the folks out on the mainland are crazier than you! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops to a dirty, bouncy trap rhythm. The mouth harp twangs a dark, rubbery rhythm.) People out here fighting over every little thing Waiting for the bell inside the heavy metal ring They forgot how to build, they forgot how to fix Just throwing all their problems right into the mix! I sit back with my terp pen, shaking my head Watching all the madness from the safety of the bed! I know I got a diagnosis, I know I got a file, But at least I have the decency to do it with a smile! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The hurdy-gurdy breathes in and out, creating a humid, heavy tension.) (Matt - male) The logic is broken... (Sam - female) ...and the heavy doors were locked. (Matt - male) Now the whole damn system... (Sam - female) ...is officially shocked. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum volume. Turntable scratches cut through the mix, blending hip-hop swagger with outlaw country weight.) (Matt - male) It’s a full-blown circus running in the street! [Bridge - Matt (male)] (The instruments drop completely out except for a single acoustic guitar snapping and the faint tick of a percussive banjo. Matt speaks directly into the mic, completely serious, dead-calm, and full of respect.) I ain't trying to save 'em. I'm just trying to keep the Bimmer running and the kids safe. The circus can have the mainland. [Outro - Sam (female) & Matt (male)] (The bouncy, dark-comedy 808 beat crashes back in for a final, swaggering ride-out.) (Sam - female - singing smooth and sassy) Welcome to the circus... step right up... (Matt - male - spoken, a low, rumbling chuckle) Yeah. Just keep the noise down, I’m trying to sleep. (The sound of a heavy steel door slamming shut, locking the circus out, and absolute silence.)
