Moloch was an ancient Near Eastern deity, possibly associated with Baal. The Hebrew Bible strongly condemns the practice of "passing children through the fire" to Moloch, often interpreted as child sacrifice. This worship was seen as an abomination and a deviation from the worship of Yahweh. Despite biblical prohibitions, instances of Moloch worship are recorded in Israel's history. Later traditions depicted Moloch as a demon. Today, the term is sometimes used allegorically for destructive forces demanding great sacrifice. His origins are debated, but the association with child sacrifice remains central. [Intro – Whispered in Ugaritic-inspired tongue] “Ṯalik b’al-Mlk... thurāg naphshu b-esh... Ẓilmūtu ša Sheol... Yeladim lammavet.” [Massive drop – slow, ritualistic groove, dissonant riffing] [Verse] Iron mouth and burning hands, Throne of ash in shattered lands. Topheth screams in tongues of fire, Blood-fed songs from funeral pyres. Smoke like incense fills the skies, Echoes of a thousand cries. Kings bowed low, priests held still, To feed the hunger none could fill. [Chorus – growled and layered] Moloch, Moloch – fire-bound King! Where children burn and choirs scream. Moloch, Moloch – Lord of Shame, We gave our hearts and burned our names. In the Valley, black and wide, We left our souls where the flames divide! [Verse] Voices lost in crimson dust, Gold and incense turned to rust. Baal wears many faces grim, But the bull’s head knows no sin. Drums like thunder pound the clay, While prophets wail and turn away. But the gates of Sheol stand open wide, And Moloch waits on the other side. [Bridge – spoken, in Hebrew-infused tongue] “Lo-titten et-bencha l'ha'avir l'Molech... ve-tim'a et-shem Eloheicha..." [Chorus – slower, heavier, harmonized with choir] Moloch, Moloch – crowned in flame! Buried cities speak your name. Moloch, Moloch – demon, lord, To whom the pure are cast and torn. No god of love, no god of peace— Just hunger that will never cease. [Outro – fading chant, echoing guitar wails] Melech boshet... Melech mavet... HaEsh lo tichbeh...
