Lettre 16 – The Burden of the Romans

V6-WILD

[Introduction]: The Roman administration weighs heavily on the province, caught between crushing taxes, omnipresent garrisons, and contempt for local traditions. • [Verse 1] The Roman eagles fly over our cities, Constantly reminding us of our limited possessions. Their boots echo on the sacred cobblestones, Where our ancestors prayed so many times. The burden is heavy on the shoulders of the people, Crushed by the order of a distant master. • [Chorus] Under the weight of the eagle and iron laws, Judea advances toward a dark destiny. But the burden sometimes breaks the scale, And patience gives way to violence. • [Verse 2] The tax collectors plunder without shame, While hunger gnaws inside the cottages. Each centurion imposes his will, And despises our laws and our freedom. Anger boils beneath the ashes and smiles, Ready to turn silence into something worse. • [Chorus] Under the weight of the eagle and iron laws, Judea advances toward a dark destiny. But the burden sometimes breaks the scale, And patience gives way to violence. • [Verse 3] How much longer shall we endure this yoke, Without reacting to the blows and ugly tricks? Rome believes it reigns for all eternity, Yet its throne rests upon fragile dust. The burden weighs, but the spine stiffens, Awaiting the day when everything breaks. • [Outro] The helmets gleam in the sun... But the night is already rumbling.
