~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Copyright © Public Domain] [Writing by: Traditional] [Recorded at: Various Studios] [Profile: Public Domain] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Intro] [Verse 1] There is a house in New Orleans, That they call the Rising Sun, It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, And my Lord, I know I'm one. I never was a rich boy, But I always had my fun. I loved a girl back in my youth, But now, that girls a nun. [Chorus] Goin’ back to New Orleans, Back to the house o’the Rising Sun! I'll break out o’this damn prison, Or I'll never be done! [Verse 2] My mother was a tailor, She sewed my new blue jeans. My father is a con-man, He’s still down in New Orleans! The only thing a con-man needs Is a suitcase and a gun. He’ll take you for all that you've got, Then head back to the Rising Sun. [Break: Instrumental] [Chorus] Goin’ back to New Orleans, Back to the house o’the Rising Sun! break out o’this damn prison, Or I'll never, ever be done! [Solo] [Bridge: Screamed] There is a house in New Orleans! They call the Rising Sun! It's been the ruin of many a poor boy! n’ holy shit, I know I'm one! [Outro: Stripped Down] Goin back to New Orleans, Back to the house o’the Rising Sun. I’ll break free from this prison, Or I'll never, ever, ever…. be done.
I'm very surprised to learn that this song is not copyrighted. Apparently the oldest known recording of the song, under the title "Rising Sun Blues," was recorded in 1933 by Gwin Foster and Clarence "Tom" Ashley,
