[Intro - distant bell / airy breath] Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva... 观自在菩萨… practicing deep Prajnaparamita... 行深般若波罗蜜多时… [Verse 1] saw clearly... 照见… the five skandhas are empty... 五蕴皆空… and crossed beyond all suffering 度一切苦厄 Shariputra... 舍利子… form is not apart from emptiness... 色不异空… emptiness is not apart from form... 空不异色… form is emptiness 色即是空 emptiness is form 空即是色 feeling, perception, formation, consciousness 受想行识 are also just like this 亦复如是 [Verse 2 - slight melodic lift] Shariputra... 舍利子… all dharmas bear the mark of emptiness... 是诸法空相… not arising... not ceasing... 不生…不灭… not stained... not pure... 不垢…不净… not increasing... not decreasing... 不增…不减… therefore, in emptiness... 是故空中… there is no form... 无色… no feeling, perception, formation, consciousness... 无受想行识… [Build - rhythm gently moves forward] no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind... 无眼耳鼻舌身意… no sight, sound, scent, taste, touch, or thought... 无色声香味触法… no realm of the eye... 无眼界… up to no realm of consciousness... 乃至…无意识界… no ignorance... 无无明… and no end of ignorance... 亦无无明尽… and so on... 乃至… no aging and death... 无老死… and no end of aging and death... 亦无老死尽… [Climax - the only spacious opening] no suffering, origin, cessation, or path... 无苦集灭道… no wisdom... and no attainment... 无智…亦无得… because there is nothing to attain... 以无所得故… the bodhisattva... 菩提萨埵… relying on Prajnaparamita... 依般若波罗蜜多故… has no obstruction in the heart... 心无罣碍… with no obstruction... 无罣碍故… there is no fear... 无有恐怖… far beyond distorted dreams... 远离颠倒梦想… reaching final nirvana... 究竟涅槃… [Final - soft return] all buddhas of the three times... 三世诸佛… relying on Prajnaparamita... 依般若波罗蜜多故… attain unsurpassed complete awakening... 得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提… therefore know that Prajnaparamita... 故知般若波罗蜜多… is the great mantra... 是大神咒… the great bright mantra... 是大明咒… the unsurpassed mantra... 是无上咒… the unequaled mantra... 是无等等咒… able to remove all suffering... 能除一切苦… true... not false... 真实…不虚… therefore proclaim the Prajnaparamita mantra... 故说般若波罗蜜多咒… gate... gate... 揭谛…揭谛… paragate... 波罗揭谛… parasamgate... 波罗僧揭谛… bodhi... svaha... 菩提…萨婆诃…
